FROM the chance to get out and meet new people and enjoy sport or share a love of the arts with others, there are so many wonderful things about being a member of a club.

The Bundaberg region continues to showcase talented people both in sport, the arts and horticulture, and the support for them is evident in the wealth of clubs detailed in this feature.

Bundaberg Diggers Football Club president Andrew Halpin said sport was something that parents could always rely on to keep their children active.

"There is never a need to say there isn't things to do in this region when we have such a wealth of great clubs to join," he said.

"Sports such as football are ideal as they get children out of the house and it is a base for them to feel safe in and develop their skills.

"There are currently 1300 to 1500 junior members playing football in our region and that is something to be proud of."

Bundaberg Indoor Sports Centre co-owner John Watson echoed Andrew's sentiments that sport was alive and well in Bundaberg.

"At our centre alone we have netball, cricket, tennis and junior netball all of which are proving very popular, especially because being indoors helps escape the heat," he said.

"It is good to see, especially in the junior netball, that there is a real interest every year from new players and our older players are always keen to share their experience and help out wherever they can."

Joining a club isn't always about the sport itself, but the lessons you can take away from it.

That is evident in clubs such as Rhee Taekwon-do Bundaberg, which has been running for an incredible 35 years.
