Decorating Can Be Such Child's Play; Let the Kids Express Themselves with Their Room

Byline: THE HOMES With Andrea McLean

IBUMPED into a friend the other day, who is finally decorating her son's bedroom how SHE wants to, because he has just moved out. He is 35!

My kids ar M e a long way off that, and I have to say I'm pleased.

Not least because I do actually like them as well as love them - but decorating their bedrooms is something I really enjoy.

My da M ughter went through the fairytale princess stage, so I spent hours drawing and painting a full wall of fields and a castle for her to enjoy. Then she decided she HATED A pink.

Her castle has been painted over in an eye-burning yellow to match her fluffy bedspread.

It's a million light years from what I like, but that's the point - it's her bedroom not mine.

My te M enage son doesn't care what his room looks like, so I have stuck to classic navy blue.

His days of having the inside a of the Doctor Who Tardis on T one whole wall (so it looked like he was sleeping inside it), have now gone - which is a shame because it was a lot more fun than the plain blue he has now.

And that's the point of kids, and their bedrooms, isn't it? When and where else can you be as daft as you like when it comes to decorating without even caring whether it's on trend or anyone else likes it? Let them express themselves, I say, because it may be the only time they feel carefree enough to do it.
