A WOMAN who came metres from slamming her car into three children before crashing into a power pole was last week jailed in the Rockhampton Magistrates' Court.

Cassandra Mary Stanley pleaded guilty to dangerous operation of a vehicle. Magistrate Jeff Clarke told her: "It's only for the grace of God that someone wasn't killed".

On Friday the court heard the 46-year-old was the driver of a Holden Commodore V8 involved in an accident on Munro St, Kawana, last November.

Police prosecutor Manon Barwick said the car reversed at high speed out of a driveway before accelerating forward, fishtailing for 50 metres, then skidding into a power pole and landing against a house fence.

"The car came within five metres of at least three children," she said.

Witnesses reported hearing a male passenger yelling, "drift it" as the car spun.

The crash occurred next to a soccer field where games were being held, with many young children in the vicinity at the time. …
