Farmer Shoots Wild Dogs; Two Dogs Killed after Sheep Attack

A FARMER was forced to shoot and kill two dogs that had been attacking livestock on her Helidon property.

Gatton police said the farmer had contacted officers after three dogs attacked and killed a number of sheep on her Gatton-Helidon Rd property about 4.30pm Tuesday.

Two of the three dogs were shot and killed before officers arrived.

Lockyer Valley Mayor Steve Jones said council officers had been made aware of the attack and were awaiting the outcome of investigations to determine if the dogs were wild or domestic.

"To date, no one has contacted council reporting missing dogs that match the description of those involved in the attack so we are unable to determine whether they are wild or domesticated," he said.

"Council takes all incidents of animal attacks very seriously and fortunately reported attacks such as this are very rare."

A police spokesman confirmed officers had been called to a rural property Tuesday afternoon but because it was not a police issue it was not being investigated by them. …
