THE wintry weather and subsequent playing conditions were again on top last week with only two games Eskvale and Cleveland League matches played.

In the D& G Trophies League Challenge Cup, league top two Redcar Athletic and Great Ayton United Royals locked horns with a place in the semi-finals at stake.

A good and tight first half saw Liam Fox give the home side the lead before the visitors got back into the game to equalise.

Kieran Stares was then on target to send the home side into the interval in front, but shortly after the break the visitors equalised again to set up a pulsating second half.

The game was very even until the home side put themselves in front again through Charles Brockbank.

The visitors continued to battle as they tried for an equaliser but close to the end from a Great Ayton corner, Athletic broke away and the pace of Sulamain Massaquoi gave them a fourth goal.

League action saw Lealholm welcome Stokesley Sports Club and the home side took the lead inside five minutes after a defensive mix-up. …
