PORT PARTY: Kevin Hughes in the middle, with the black shirt and corona, couldn't believe how many stories this group had about him.

THE Gladstone Port Social Club was full of laughter and anecdotes as Kevin Hughes celebrated his retirement after 25 years working for Gladstone Ports Corporation.

Kevin didn't know where his colleagues, all 150 of them which he considers friends, were finding all their stories about him.

There was a story about how the 61-year-old electrician took foreman Darryl Prest through the car wash with the window down.

"I wound down his window and unscrewed the handle off to teach him a lesson," he said.

"The water kept coming in and we were stuck in the car wash.

"He wouldn't mind me talking about it.

"In fact the camaraderie in the port authority from the pay office to the dozer drivers is great, everybody gets on with everybody."

Kevin moved to Gladstone more than 25 years ago after he was given a job at Boyne Smelter. …
