AFTER the success of The Affair and The Wire, Dominic West is a household name -- but even he was starstruck when he met George Clooney.

West appears alongside the Hollywood star in a new thriller, and said Clooney was "as big as it gets".

But the British actor is happy with a lower level of fame -- he shuns "the entourage and the glitz" and still takes the Tube.

West, 46, stars with Clooney in Money Monster, which is directed by his "hero" Jodie Foster and also features Julia Roberts and Jack O'Connell.

The film tells the story of a financial television personality played by Clooney who is taken hostage live on air by a disgruntled investor who loses his money after a bad tip.

West plays the boss of a company whose stocks are recommended by Clooney's character, leading to the hostage drama.

He said: "I got to spend a week with George Clooney. He is as big as it gets really, isn't he? I was totally starstuck. I got punched by him -- and there is a certain intimacy to that. It is a bit of a bonding experience. It was part of the performance -- I wasn't rude about [Clooney's wife] Amal ... Can you imagine if I was rude about Amal -- said she was ugly. No, no."

It was "hugely exciting" working with Foster. He said: "She is a real hero of mine.

And did not disappoint. Very clever, cool, human. It's nice when people are like that."

The actor lives in Shepherd's Bush with his wife Catherine Fitzgerald, a producer, and their four children. He said: "I do mainly kids' things. Football matches and avoid Westfield. "[My life] is a bit different now. But I still get the Tube to work and I haven't really changed anything.

"If you have the entourage and the glitz, then that's the way you are treated. If you take the Tube, people tend to respect your privacy. …
