Health Minister Tours Ward Due to Reopen within Weeks

THE latest Ipswich Hospital ward to get a serious makeover will reopen within weeks.

After its $938,000 renovation is finished, Ward 6C will have a specially-built bed for obese patients and single-patient rooms to contain infectious conditions such as the flu.

It's the third ward to get a major remodel in the past two years as the hospital prepares for the mammoth population growth predicted for Ipswich in the next few decades.

Queensland Health Minister Cameron Dick said the hospital was a flagship facility in this area of the state.

During a tour of the ward under construction yesterday, he said the project was a model for other hospital refurbishments across the state.

Ipswich contractors won the tender for the project and have been working since April last year to bring it up to date.

"We'll continue to provide resources to this hospital to put it where it matters - right at the frontline," Mr Dick said. …
