Glenlyon and Copeton Dams Yielding Plenty of Large Cod

Article excerpt

A NEW range of locally made spinnerbaits the codhound spinnerbaits are available in much heavier weights and are perfect for fishing deeper areas or trolling. The extra weight keeps the spinnerbait down better and closer to the bottom.

THERE has been some quality fishing at Leslie on both bait and lures for mostly smaller yellowbelly and cod.

The fish have been spread out over all parts of the dam.

Picking up two or three fish and moving to a new location has worked well.

The fish aren't schooling together a lot working out of the main lake points with saltwater yabbies or using the Eco Gear blades in around 15 ft of water being the most productive.

SOMERSET is fishing really well at the moment.

The Kirkleigh area from the start of the timber down to bay 13 is holding lots of quality bass.

A variety of lures have been working well.

The Norries Spoons and Bassman spinnerbait worked along the bottom in around 10m has been very successful.

The fish are schooling up so trolling isn't as effective and for the bait fisho live shrimp is by far the most successful.

MAROON Dam is another spot that is fishing really well.

There have been lots of fish caught here but mostly smaller bass around the 30cm mark.

Early morning the surface bite is still available until about 8am.

Then the most fish have been caught rolling plastics in front of the weed beds around Pointro.

Spinnerbaiting the timber has produced the better quality fish but not the numbers. For the bait fisho again live shrimp will be by far the best.

NOT much has changed at Cressy.

The early morning bite is still the best.

Spinnerbaits and jackals to the edges up until about 8am is the chance for a big fish.

After that the fishing slows down.

The fish move deep and a few bass are caught out deeper trolling hard bodies around or using live baits.

The afternoon bite picks up a bit with some good fish caught hopping blades of the steeper banks.

THINGS are a bit slow at Cooby. …
