MAN TRAPPED IN DRAMATIC CRASH Three New Crashes for 2016 Toll; Collision Closes Busy Road for Seven Hours

A MAN aged in his 30s underwent surgery at Lismore Base Hospital yesterday afternoon following a serious crash on Bangalow Rd between a ute and a truck carrying gas bottles.

Emergency services were called to the incident near the Eltham Rd turnoff at 9.52am after reports that two vehicles had collided in rainy conditions.

When police, paramedics, NSW Fire and Rescue, Rural Fire Service volunteers and police rescue arrived they found the driver of a blue eastbound Mazda BT50 ute owned by a mechanic business was trapped, after it had collided with a white truck carrying Elgas LPG bottles, which was travelling toward Lismore.

Police said both vehicles came to rest in the eastbound lane and the driver of the ute, the man aged in his 30s, was trapped for more than an hour.

Officers from the police rescue squad worked with firefighters to free the ute driver, who was treated at the scene for multiple injuries to his legs and a laceration to his head, before being taken to Lismore Base Hospital in a serious condition. …
