Young Cooper Gets Marist Brothers out of Trouble

LISMORE teenager Jack Cooper looks set for a bright future after the 14-year-old top-scored for Marist Brothers with 85 runs against Pottsville in Far North Coast LJ Hooker League cricket.

Brothers were 4-29 when Cooper came to the crease and he helped steer them to 8-213 at stumps on the first day of the two-day match at Seabreeze Oval, Pottsville.

Jack played five games in the lower grades this season and has scored 172 runs since coming into the top grade in November.

He is a younger brother of Redbacks batsman Tom Cooper, who played all his junior cricket in Lismore before moving to Sydney and then to South Australia.

"It's his first year in senior cricket and we wanted to start him off in the lower grades to see how he went," Brothers captain Brad Cleaver said.

"He has already shown a lot of ability and he batted really well to get us out of trouble.

"We can't afford to slip up here with the way the ladder is. …
