GLADSTONE: Teenager Jamie Eric Stenzel didn't think police would take a peep under his mat and find a brutal knuckle dusters and ice stash.

Police prosecutor Gavin Reece said police stopped Stenzel's car at Tannum Sands at 9pm on January 7 and found a pair of knuckle dusters under a floor mat.

Along with the illegal weapon police also seized 0.7grams of ice (methylamphetamine) in three clip seal bags and a glass pipe for drug use.

Despite the stash being hidden under the car mat, Stenzel told police he did not know the knuckle dusters were illegal and were only a car ornament. But in court his lawyer said Stenzel instructed that the weapon had been given to him and he left it in the car.

Stenzel, 18, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court to unlawful possession of weapons; possession of the drug ice and drug utensils at Tannum Sands on January 7. Magistrate Penelope Hay said some of his claims including the knuckle dusters being an ornament were "clearly lies". …
