Florists Set for Bloom Boom; Don't Forget Your Love on Sunday

MORE than 1000 long- stemmed red roses, imported from Columbia in South America, were gently unpacked at Tweed Heads South this week, as florists geared up for Valentine's Day.

With dozens more boxes of blooms from the US ready for pick-up, florists around the Tweed are prepared for what should be one of their biggest trading days when Valentine's Day is celebrated tomorrow.

Tweed Banora Flowers on Minjungbal Dr has stocked up on red, hot pink, white and yellow Columbian blooms, with orders coming in as early as Tuesday for residents from Piggabeen to Casuarina.

But owner James Robertson said the industry was divided on whether or not this year's big day would be a true success for traders.

"People love to send things to their wife and friends during business hours, and with this Valentine's Day falling on a Sunday, in the industry people are mixed on what will happen," Mr Robertson said. …
