Gini Stays Silent on Half-Time Hooking

GEORGINIO Wijnaldum would not confirm whether he was hooked at half-time at Chelsea for tactical reasons or due to injury, although his admission that it's the manager's job to answer that question strongly suggested it was the former.

Jack Colback came on to replace the 25-year-old, who, it is understood, McClaren contemplated dropping from the line-up ahead of the game.

Wijnaldum is United's top scorer with nine goals this season, but all of those strikes have come at St James' Park and the attacking midfielder has often been far less effective on the road.

When Wijnaldum was asked if he had been withdrawn for tactical reasons or injury, he responded: "I don't know. This is something you must ask the manager. "I think it's his job to answer this question and not mine."

Wijnaldum, normally extremely eloquent when interviewed, was visibly upset and angered by United's defeat.
