A WEEK on Saturday, Neil Aspin will be making a quick return to the club which sacked him last September during his seventh season with them.

Gateshead have unbelievably been paired with Halifax in the quarter-finals of the FA Trophy at The Shay as Wembley beckons for both.

"Amazing, isn't it," admitted Aspin, who was at his old stamping ground last week for their delayed win over FC Chester.

"When Halifax won promotion from the Conference North I gave my medal to a young lad who is severely disabled.

"I knew where he sat in the ground so I slipped in and sat next to him to watch the tie, which had originally been postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

"There are a few people there I'll never speak to again, but there are also a lot of good people.

"I know all about what we will be facing at the Shay. All but two of their players were signed by me."

Neil admits that, after agreeing to join his hometown club in December, he was stopped short when he watched a DVD of their last game. …
