LAST year's rare fall of snow in the Granite Belt and an idea from 2013 have inspired a new festival for the Southern Downs - Snowflakes in Stanthorpe.

The festival will be held on the weekend of July 1-3 and will celebrate winter in Queensland's coolest town. Snowflakes will explode on to the main street of Stanthorpe on Friday, July 1, to kick off festivities.

Stalls will line the streets with food and music. Shop fronts and windows are expected to be in full decoration with a variety of workshops to take part in.

Saturday, July 2, will be the main day of the festival at the Stanthorpe Showgrounds.

Tipped to be a highlight will be the ice skating rink and wandering through an enchanted winter forest.

Attendees can also check out the wineries, markets, a fashion parade then snuggle up to a bonfire and call it a day. …
