FOR Toowoomba Westpac Bank manager Joe Hannant, 2016 has already proved a very busy time.

Yet, only part of that involves the Ruthven St bank in Toowoomba's CBD.

Late last year, Westpac moved from its traditional base at the corner of Ruthven and Margaret Sts to new premises across the road.

"The move has been really good and it's a change to the way we do banking," Mr Hannant explained.

"There's a lot more technology, it's a lot more interactive and that has been accepted well by the customers.

"In the first month we topped Australia for cardless deposits which shows how Toowoomba is changing in the way people do their banking."

However, as busy as leading the move has been, it's Mr Hannant's other "job" that has taken up plenty of his time.

For the past 15 years Mr Hannant has volunteered his time as coach, committee member, then executive of initially the junior body of Brothers rugby league club, the last three years as president of the seniors. …
