Blues Will Be Worried about Facing Us - Stewie

EVERTON should be "wary" of giant-killing Boro warned Stewart Downing ahead of tonight's tie.

The club's fourth round Capital One Cup penalty shoot-out victory over Manchester United and last season's FA Cup win at Manchester City has raised expectations of another upset.

And Downing, who converted his spot-kick at Old Trafford, is going into the televised Riverside encounter in a confident frame of mind.

"If I was Everton," he said, "I'd be wary. I know they are in good form, but they will need to be at the top of their game to beat us.

"We have got some really good players here and we have already shown we can mix it with the best.

"Manchester United had plenty of their so-called stars out on the night and we had chances to win the game in normal time before we beat them on penalties. We missed chances to win it. We've proved we can do it."

There's no doubt Boro's priority this season is promotion, but Karanka can't be accused of failing to take the cups seriously and Downing agrees with that policy.

"It would be a shame to come all this way and not go for the win," he added.

"I'm sure the manager sees it that way. I don't know, he might make a few changes, but whoever comes in will have the quality to really go for it.

"No matter who we are playing, we have proven we can match them. We're really going to go for it to get the win, I'm sure that's how the manager feels.

"He will really go for it, he wants to win every game. We've got the cup and the league, but you're playing for your place in the team every week here.

"You saw the team Manchester United put out, they obviously wanted to win it.

"A lot of teams don't. They want to concentrate on the league, especially in the Premier League, and this competition gets pushed to one side a little bit. …
