Parting Is Such Sweet Sorrow

WE ALL have things dear to our hearts. A loved one? Your pet Labrador named Snowy that's been in the family since you wore nappies perhaps? It could be something as simple as your Malvern Star bicycle with butterfly handlebars and longboard seat - but enough about my childhood.

During the week I had to say goodbye to something very close to my heart. An item that has been with me through thick and thin over the past eight years.

On Thursday I said my final goodbyes to my pair of black dress shoes.

It was an emotional day. After finding out my left shoe sole had a split bigger than the coalition it really made sense to get rid of them. They couldn't be salvaged, they were too far gone. The soles were worn way past the 'repair here' strip. The shoe shine had worn off years ago and tragically every time I put them on I felt like I could feel every grain of gravel that I stood on.

This put me in quite a difficult position. Do I just go and replace same for same or do I try something new? …
