Have Thousands of Jobs Gone in Fitzroy?

DEPUTY opposition leader John-Paul Langbroek (pictured) has hit out and stated that the Fitzroy region's unemployment "crisis" is getting worse by the day.

"The 3800 jobs that were lost in the last year in the region will be a big hit to Fitzroy's economy," Mr Langbroek said.

"It's disappointing for people right across the state who are trying to find work that Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has seemingly given up on fixing our unemployment crisis.

"Fitzroy deserves better than a Labor Government which has put unemployment in the too hard basket."

But Member for Rockhampton and Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services and Corrective Services Bill Byrne hit back, saying the issue dates back much further.

"All I can say about Central Queensland is, what really did the most damage here in Central Queensland, in particular Rockhampton, was three years of public service cuts," Mr Byrne said. …
