BERWICK manager John Coughlin is hoping a 1-0 home victory over Montrose on Saturday proves to be the turning point in their season.

Coupled with East Stirling's 2-0 defeat to Elgin, it meant Rangers opened up a five-point lead over the bottom club in their battle to avoid the wooden spoon.

Coughlin said: "This was a game where the result was probably more important than the victory, which Is why I am so pleased to have secured the win.

"In recent weeks we have been looking over our shoulders but now we have given ourselves breathing space.

"In saying that, we cannot afford to become too complacent because Shire have a game in hand.

"It iss important we try and keep the momentum going which has seen us go unbeaten in our last three fixtures.

"We have also closed the gap on Montrose to only three points, which is a lot more manageable, and now we can look up the table at the teams above us thinking we might be able to catch them as well. …
