We Need to Be Ready for Big Derby Test, Insists Kaboul

SUNDERLAND are heading into the 'most important' Tyne-Wear derby for years as they prepare to face Newcastle United at St James' Park a week on Sunday.

It is almost certain three of the current bottom four - a group comprising Sunderland, Newcastle, Norwich City and Aston Villa - will be relegated, which means at least one of the North East sides will be for the drop.

With Villa already dead men walking, the odds can be further narrowed to two out of the other three teams.

Sunderland hold the advantage, with defeats for Newcastle and Norwich on Saturday meaning the Black Cats' 1-1 draw at Southampton edged them a point clear of the relegation zone.

Yet the outcome of the derby could have a huge impact on the relegation battle, says Black Cats defender Younes Kaboul.

He said: "There are important games left and the one coming is the most important for the fans and for us also.

"We have to be ready for the derby day and show we can win. …
