Either way, the residents of Carlyle Gardens Retirement Village are upset that they were not notified of plans to install an Optus mobile phone tower outside the car park of the Bargara Lakes Tavern, less than 30m from their homes.

The first they heard of it was in the village newsletter last week -- after objections closed. The foundations for the tower have been laid at 2 Bargara Lakes Dr.

"I think the council is making a mistake," resident Ann Dillon said.

"A notice on a similar device at the Bargara Golf Club says 'may affect biomedical devices' -- and some residents here have pacemakers."

Residents have complained that a single letter advising of the plans was sent to the village manager in early December -- despite occupants holding 99-year leases. …
