Pedalling for Thai Charity; Journo, Team Cycle 500km in Four Days

HE'S more used to being behind the camera but this time SBS presenter journalist Michael Tomalaris was in the media spotlight.

The journalist, along with 32 other cyclists, left Byron Bay on Thursday before stopping overnight in Murwillumbah and continuing to the Queensland border and on to Beaudesert.

He is raising awareness for charity, Hands Across the Water, by cycling a total of 500km in four days.

The group finished at Ballina on Sunday afternoon.

Mr Tomalaris led the pack to promote the Australian charity which supports at-risk children and their communities in Thailand.

It was was set up by Peter Baines OAM following the 2004 tsunami which devastated many island communities reliant on tourism trade.

Hands Across the Water supports seven projects and helps over 300 children in Thailand.

Mr Tomalaris said all donations to the charity would go to the children and their communities, with no donor money spent on administration, staff or marketing. …
