Swimmers to Chandler; Top Efforts by the Young Students at Regional Level

SWIMMING: Six swimmers from the Southern Downs have qualified for the 10-12 years state school championships at Chandler on March 21-23.

The seven finished in the top five in their events at the Darling Down Regional Swimming Carnival as 34 swimmers from 11 Southern Downs zone schools competed.

Southern Downs team co-ordinator David Kruger was high in praise of the efforts of the Southern Downs team.

"I am especially pleased with the efforts of all swimmers on such a hot day," he said.

Cooper Harm from Allora State School broke the 10 years 50m backstroke record, which had stood for 20 years, in winning two gold medals, while Liam Vickers (Warwick West State School) won the 11 years age champion and was in the top three in his seven events.

Liam won four events in the 11 years age group.

Southern Downs students selected in the Darling Downs team were Emma Day, Gemma Vickers, Liam Vickers (Warwick West), Cooper Harm (Allora), Lilly Osborne (St Mary's) and Krystal Petersen (Killarney). …
