ROAD RACERS REV UP; New Faces and Riders on the Track in Season Opener

THERE was plenty of new faces and returns to the track in the first round of the North Coast Road Racers at the Lismore Showground.

About 30 riders turned out for the two-day competition at the weekend with racing in eight different classes.

"Dean May was back after a few years out of racing and he had a pretty good weekend," club president James Britton said.

"He's from Coffs Harbour and he was able to win a couple of races.

"There a few old faces that have come back this season which is good to see.

"We had another eight or nine juniors race and that is pretty important to us.

"We're one of the only clubs in New South Wales that have junior races on a tar track.

"A lot of them do dirt bike racing and just change the tyres over for the weekend."

The club is now in its 24th year and has more than doubled its numbers in recent years.

The Lismore track is unique in that it is the only track where racing is held clockwise and anti-clockwise, with both directions presenting challenges in the short-course format. …
