ATHLETICS: Illness, injury, disappointment, surprise, disbelief and elation - the Little Athletics State Championships had it all for the seven Grafton athletes who competed in Sydney over the weekend.

With up to 24 competitors in each event, our athletes achieved some great results and should be very proud of their efforts.

Friday night saw Lainie Casserly compete in the

U12 girls' high jump.

Having easily cleared 1.35m on her third jump, after two steps into her first attempt at 1.40m a niggling muscle injury become a major problem and Lainie had to withdraw.

Also competing on Friday night in the U15 girls' triple jump, Erica Tillman improved her PB by 14cm to jump 10.74m.

To her surprise and delight, this earned her the bronze medal in her pet event.

On Saturday, Kyle McIlveen competed in the U17 boys' high jump. Still under an injury cloud, he managed to clear 1. …
