BRUCE Diamond may not get a lot of votes but he does come up with good ideas during Rockhampton election campaigns.

The smooth talking, ultimately unsuccessful mayoral candidate, proposed a Beef and Barra Capital initiative for re-branding the region.

This has some merit for strong consideration and future debate.

He suggested combining the Beef Capital slogan with a fishing tag to catch a wider audience while not discounting the importance of beef.

He is right.

Not a lot of tourists are going to be drawn here because of the cattle industry while the lure of a well-promoted fishing paradise will hook a different set of tourists/enthusiasts.

That type of discussion has been bubbling around for a decade or more but the time has come to do something about it.

Mr Diamond said recent changes to net free fishing in the heart of Rockhampton led to a developing image for great fishing. …
