WHY make an Easter basket when you can create an "Easter person"?

Tom Mulherin was just one of hundreds of students throughout the Mackay region eager to show off their easter creations yesterday.

The six-year-old youngster's Bucasia State School class had been busy getting crafty this week, creating baskets and bonnets and preparing for today's much-anticipated Easter Bonnet Parade.

Tom said he had decided to design an Easter person, because it could fit "more stuff in it" and wanted to splurge on using stickers.

His Easter person, which he named "Blue", was filled with hay, feathers, straw, rubber bands and even small chicken figures.

"He has a tail and had a hat at the top of his head," Tom said.

Students from Prep to Year 6 will be keen to show off their fluffy, sparkly, wearable creations at the parade, traditionally held on the day before the Easter holidays.

Prep and Year 1 teacher Louise Becker said the lead-up to Easter was a great chance to get crafty while learning. …
