THIS season marks the 18th running of the Australian AMCA Sedan Championship, which will be decided at Castrol Edge Lismore Speedway tonight and tomorrow night.

Over the years the national title has been held throughout Australia - including Tasmania - and securing the event for Lismore was a major coup for promoter David Lander.

The event was first held in the 1997-98 season at the former Newcastle Motordrome and was won by Victorian Les Feltham.

Another Victorian, Mark Lincoln, is the defending titleholder following his victory last year at Murray Bridge in South Australia.

The Australian Motor Contest Association (AMCA) event is one of the most keenly contested national titles on the speedway calendar.

That is because the cars are so evenly matched courtesy of strict regulations that allow very few modifications to the GM 350 and 253 engines.

The AMCAs are a low budget entry category into the oval track national racing scene. …
