MORE than 1400 drivers were caught speeding on NSW roads on day three of the annual Easter traffic blitz.

Police yesterday appealed to motorists to slow down on the road today with traffic expected to be at its busiest as the Easter long weekend comes to an end.

The plea comes as police continue with Operation Tortoise which has targeted dangerous driving including drink and drug driving, mobile phone use and speeding.

In the three days since the operation was launched 4124 people in NSW have been issued speeding infringements by police.

Among those caught speeding was a 30-year-old Bella Vista man who is alleged to have been doing almost double the speed limit on the Pacific Hwy near Coffs Harbour.

The man had his licence suspended and registration plates confiscated after police detected him travelling in his Audi R8 sports car at 117kph in a 60kph zone on Friday. …
