Matt Hit Throttle a Bit Too Gung-Ho; Young Rider Overcomes Flipping His Bike to Finish Strongly

AN ADRENALIN rush is a good thing in all sports.

However, it can lead to over-zealous setbacks, but in Matt Eggleton's case it was only temporary during yesterday's second round of the Orange to Ocean Interclub Motorbike Series at Benaraby Raceway.

"I went all right after I flipped it and it set me back a little bit," Matt, 14, said of the mishap in the Junior Mini Lites category.

He learned from his mistake quickly to overtake several other riders.

"I dropped the clutch too early and I guess that the adrenalin rush got to me," Matt added.

His dad Michael was at his side to offer advice about staying calm at the start line.

Matt admitted that his dad was concerned with the "gung-ho" approach.

"Dad told me that he was getting a bit scared because he said that I was getting too keen," Matt said.

It all began for Matt at the beginner class of bikes.

"When I was younger I raced in the peewee 50s class," Matt said. …
