Man Who Drove While Banned Is Sent to Jail

A DISQUALIFIED driver who flouted multiple driving bans to get back behind the wheel has been jailed.

Terry Agar, 27, of Morris Street, Birtley, has been handed a 22-week custodial sentence after he appeared at Newcastle Magistrates' Court.

He was serving a 38-month driving ban when he was spotted by motor patrols officers driving a Jaguar X-type through Gateshead.

They signalled for Agar to stop but he ignored officers and led them on a short pursuit until his car was found parked on Ravensworth Road.

He was arrested by the Op Dragoon team and charged with careless driving, failing to stop, driving while disqualified and driving with no insurance.

Motor Patrols Chief Inspector John Heckels, the lead for Op Dragoon, said: "This is not the first time Agar has flouted a driving ban and I am pleased to see him behind bars.

"People think driving without a licence or without insurance is a victimless crime but it could have a significant impact on other road users in the event of a collision. …
