Not Much Luck at the Weekend; Winds Meant Fewer Fish Were Biting at Easter

Mr Sutton said crabs are about - "(Customers) been catching a few crabs over the weekend, in most of the creeks, but fish-wise they haven't been catching a lot".

Queen fish and trevally have been caught Hesket Reef and Aspatria Island, both at the bottom of St Bees Island.

Big schools of queen fish and herring have been spotted at Round Top and Flat Top Islands in the last couple of mornings, Mr Sutton said.

One Mackay fisher caught a giant trevally at Steven's Reef.

THE weather was warm and the weekend was long, but many Mackay fishers ended up disappointed over the Easter weekend.

Tackle Pro Mackay salesman Matthew Sutton said westerly winds meant fishers didn't have much luck over the weekend.

"That weather pattern always put the fish off," Mr Sutton said.

"It's been too rough to go outside, all the boats that have tried to go to the islands and off-shore have had pretty bad trips home in the afternoon. …
