I WISH to thank Mr Dennis Lane, for his article, (Bind together for common good. The Gazette 26.03.16).

He has given people like myself the encouragement to raise issues that affect most, ordinary residents of our wonderful town.

Having worked in the rail industry for over three decades, I have seen the decline of all of the major industries, in my lifetime, ensuring the safety of freight wagons used in their transportation of their precious cargo, which was sent to the four corners of the world, and all over the UK. First casualty, the coal mines in the Northeast which employed thousands close, communities destroyed by Thatcher's Conservative government.

Industrial giants like ICI, the first company to make one billion pounds profit in the world. This had headquarters here, my first cousin worked, together with thousands of others, at Wilton. One of the greatest football managers, Brain Clough's brother worked with him. Shipyards, Head Wrightson and the steel works, not forgetting Shell, Teessport. …
