Praise to Truckies with the Hay

Article excerpt

BURRUMBUTTOCK Hayrunners have brought smiles and hope to farmers in drought-stricken Western Queensland.

More than 250 trucks rolled into Ilfracombe on Friday with $6 million worth of hay. There were 258 trucks, 406 trailers and more than 500 volunteers behind the massive effort. People from across the country have praised the efforts of the truckies behind the hay run and founder Brendan Farrell.

Cherylee Cook: It makes me feel proud to be an Aussie! Aussie spirit has been hiding away quietly for a while but it still does exist!

I have to stop watching, reading and seeing these posts, I am nearly in tears! Well done to Bumper and crew!

Maryanne Knight: I am so proud of all Australians involved & even prouder to see the Aussie Spirit alive & thriving! The situation is dire & very desperate, that's a fact & farmers certainly have copped a battering with this terrible drought but when Aussies band together, there's just nothing better! You would never see this in any other country... Well done all involved. DONATIONS PLEASE everyone to keep the trucks moving.

Estelle Kopp: This is true Aussie Spirit -- to you folks who worked so hard to organise this you are beautiful people and how rewarding this must be. Farmers and people on the land are the sole of this earth. To all our politicians, shame on you for allowing this to happen -- take care of our own first especially these amazing people on the land who have lost so much. Politicians step out of your bird cage and make this right.

Maree Hatzismalis: OMG so dry my heart goes out to the farmers. So glad there are such caring Aussies out there to help them. Great effort Brendan and Co, you really are legends.

Wendy Folker: This is so good! Sorry to be negative but how are farmers meant to pre-plan for a devastating drought like this! Fantastic job Burrumbuttock Hayrunners. …
