RUGBY LEAGUE: Former Noosa Pirate Jake Friend believes his side can rectify its season soon, following his Roosters' five-game losing streak to start 2016.

The Roosters captain has been one of his side's best throughout the opening rounds as the Bondi club battles to find consistency.

They are without several regular starters, including Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, Boyd Cordner, Mitchell Pearce, Ian Henderson and Dale Copley.

They also lost dynamite centre Michael Jennings, half James Maloney and devastating back Roger Tuivasa-Sheck in the off-season.

They were recruited by Parramatta, Cronulla and the Warriors respectively.

The lack of depth has hit the Sydney club hard but they have improved in recent weeks including their round four 18-16 loss to Manly and Sunday's 32-28 golden point loss to the Warriors.

The ever energetic Friend, who topped Sunday's tackle count with 46, said his side was not far away from bagging its first win of the season.

He said once his players started winning, he envisaged they would get on a roll and lift themselves from the bottom of the NRL ladder. …
