On Wednesday last week, by the memorial garden in Linthorpe Village, for some reason my legs turned to jelly and I crumpled to the pavement. No, I hadn't been drinking...

A lady, an angel in fact, came to me and asked if I wanted an ambulance. Then a gentleman came up and felt my pulse, and asked me if I was in any pain. He turned out to be a GP at the Linthorpe Health Centre. The woman was an in-house carer at a nursing home in Linthorpe. They eventually were able to assist me to a seat in the garden.

The GP took some details and phoned the scheme manager of the residential home where I live, who advised him to put me in a taxi and she would meet me at the door.

I was in the village to do some shopping.

I found myself asking the angel if she could possibly do my shopping for me whilst I was tended to in the health centre reception. …
