A World Cup Master; Reid Recalls Warwick Memories after Gold Win

HOCKEY: Former Warwick hockey player Scott Reid has won a gold medal with the Australian over 40s team at the 2016 World Cup in Canberra.

Reid was in the starting side as a defender for an Australian team which beat England 4-3 in the final.

The tournament in Canberra was his fifth in Australian colours and took his number of international games to 21.

"I have won 18, drawn two and lost one," he said.

"The England team had six Olympians in their team including a goalie who has been to three Olympics.

"Our only national open representative played for Malaysia before moving to Australia."

Reid first played hockey in Warwick at the age of 12 and was part of the Warwick Wizards team which won the town's only Toowoomba A1 premiership in 1997.

"I played right wing in the grand final but traditionally play in defence," he said.

After working as a surveyor for Gary Hayes and Partners in Warwick for seven years, Reid, wife Kelli and their children moved to Airlie Beach in 2003. …
