THINGS of Stone and Wood frontman Greg Arnold has travelled all the way from his new hometown of Geneva to headline at this year's Wintermoon Festival and tour nationally.

Arnold is well acquainted with the yearly event, having first attended in 2007.

"Wintermoon is a particularly spectacular sort of outdoor stage environment," he said.

"We had a great experience there one time - I remember we played a song acoustically out into the crowd, it was a magic gig for us."

Having moved to Geneva in 2014, Arnold doesn't play regularly with Things of Stone and Wood.

The Melbourne band rose to fame in the 1990s with Happy Birthday Helen, written for Arnold's now-wife, humanitarian lawyer Dr Helen Durham.

"The band doesn't play anywhere as much as we used to back in the '90s, and now every time we get together it's just fantastic," Arnold said.

"I think travelling internationally to do it reminds me how much I love the band. …
