VSASA to Hold Service before Redbacks Game

TOMORROW the Redbacks will host USQ at Warwick Credit Union Oval in Jackie Howe Drive in the annual Aussie rules Anzac Cup clash.

Veterans Support and Advocacy Service Australia (VSASA) Warwick branch members will lead a short service prior to the game against USQ Cougars.

The Anzac Cup has been contested between the Redbacks and a visiting team for the past 14 years.

The Redbacks have nine wins and four losses in a game that is played on the Saturday closest to Anzac Day in Warwick each year.

Redbacks life member and ex-serviceman Colin Pope encouraged ex-servicemen and women from all theatres of war to wear their military medals to the service.

"The ceremony pumps up the players in both teams as they prepare to go into a battle of their own on the footy field," Pope said.

"The players are always moved by the service as they recognise the sacrifices made by their forebears down the years."

The service will be at 2pm tomorrow before the start of the Warwick game against USQ which will kick off at 2. …
