AT last - a truly magical film has come to the big screen that is sure to delight and inspire all ages.

That it is based on a true story is simply amazing.

Equally amazing is that it has taken Hollywood nearly 30 years to recognise its universal appeal.

Michael "Eddie" Edwards could be you or me, or any other nobody in the street.

On the surface of it, he had little talent and absolutely zero reason to believe that, growing up with dodgy knees in a working-class family, he would ever aspire to anything great, let alone become an Olympian.

But Eddie had something more rare than Olympic Gold-winning ability. He had that something that will take you further than talent or money. He had a dream and the ambition to fulfil it, despite everyone telling him it was impossible.

Edwards had some talent: he nearly made the Olympic team as a skier, but lacked charisma and the good looks of a perceived champion so he was sent home.

Then, he decided to set his sights on being a ski jumper and with Britain having no jumping team, all he really had to do to get in was jump and survive the 70m slope. …
