THE people just kept arriving for the Anzac Day dawn service at Kandanga yesterday.

And former Gympie MP David Gibson gave them a speech worth getting up for.

Nearly 400 people were waiting when commemorations began at the town's beautifully upgraded Memorial Park.

"We join with hundreds of thousands of everyday Australians and New Zealanders who have also made the pilgrimage to their local war memorial or cenotaph to be a part of a dawn service," MrGibson said.

"Others will have made the pilgrimage to the shores of Gallipoli, or the battlefields of France; some will be standing in the jungles of New Guinea or rubber plantations in south-east Asia; others will be gathered in the streets of London or at our embassies across the globe; and then there will be those fine servicemen and women who are on active duty, gathering in their bases in the Middle East and Iraq, on ships at sea and in joint operation centres with our allies. …
