Xmas Team Delivers New Ultrasound

CHRISTMAS came early to the Toowoomba Hospital's critical care ward with the delivery of a $113,500 ultrasound purchased with proceeds from Toowoomba's Christmas Wonderland.

Intensive care unit director Dr Adam Visser explained how the ultrasound used breakthrough technology to provide outstanding image quality during a critical time of patient care.

"The new machine is very portable and easy to manoeuvre with battery back-up so we can quickly move it to any bedside for patient care, when every minute counts," Dr Visser said.

"With this machine, time to diagnose and commence treatment will be reduced, the incidence of complications and length of stay may be reduced and we are now able to perform more care locally within the ward."

Previously the critical care ward had to share an ultrasound machine with the emergency department which was inconvenient during peak times.

Toowoomba Hospital Foundation CEO Alison Kennedy thanked the Christmas Wonderland team for its hard work to run the event each year. …
