Gympie Trainers Will Scatter for the Show

GYMPIE trainers have been forced to scatter far and wide in an endeavour to keep some horses in work with the Gympie track out of operation due to the Gympie Show.

With the $5000 Three Cups Gold Rush Challenge to start on June 25 with the RSL Cup, trainers face a struggle to have contenders ready for the RSL Cup.

Some Gympie horses will trek to Wondai for fast gallops while others will transfer to Corbould Park to continue their preparations.

Mah Baker

SIX-YEAR-OLD Grand Reve mare, Mah Baker completed a hat-trick of sand track wins in the 1212m BM 50 beating Metallic Point by 6 lengths with the Michael Jokic trained Hall of Peace in third.

Mah Baker had won her previous Bundaberg start by seven lengths before winning on the Gladstone sand. Al's Briefs then just held off the fast-finishing Unique Fuse to win the 1090m Open with stablemate Seen a Host third ahead of the favourite, Bjorn. Unique Fuse recorded his third successive second in flashing home along the fence from last on the home turn.

Glenthorn Avenue showed a return to form in the 1380m BM 60 when he bolted in by 5A- lengths ridden by Chelsea. This seven-year-old Bel Esprit gelding had run third at Wondai the previous Monday behind Shoulda to Shoulda over 1100m and appreciated the extra distance and the drop in class last Saturday.

Shockwave

THE shock win of the day came in the form of Shockwave who finished strongly to win the 1600m BM 45 ridden by apprentice Adam Spinks.

This Husson three-year-old had finished 23 lengths from the winner at Wondai on the previous Monday when eighth of nine over 1465m in a BM 55 but relished racing on his home track for the first time.

Miss Alexandra made it two wins for the week with victory in the 1090m Class B by a length over Infinite Miss and favourite, Star of Aquarius. …
