Police Officer Honoured for Work during Floods; Emergency Services Personnel Celebrated

"THERE is no doubt that the events that unfolded in 2013 were the ones that I remember the most. They were quite horrific for the people in the Wide Bay-Burnett area. It was a very long and extreme sort of event to be involved in."

Bundaberg police Senior Sergeant Grant Marcus recently spoke to the NewsMail about his role during the 2013 flood crisis that struck the region.

As disaster management support officer, Snr Sgt Marcus said he had seen many harrowing things, especially during the flood.

Recently, the police officer's leadership and heroic work during this event and many more was recognised at the Brian Prince Awards held at the Bundaberg RSL Club.

"I feel quite honoured and humbled by it all," he said.

"I am just one person in a large team of very good people. People that I work with both in the Queensland Police Service but also in other agencies within the community."

The event, now in its third year, is organised by the Rotary Club of Bundaberg East and highlights the work of police officers, firefighters and paramedics in the community. …
