New Life for Heirlooms; Love Affair with Antiques Continues

ALSTONVILLE Rotary's annual Antiques and Collectables Fair is on again this weekend.

Now in its seventh year, the popularity of the fair is proof the love of antiques and vintage pieces is as strong as ever.

So, what is it that people find so alluring about items that are, essentially, second-hand?

Sharryn Lee, whose family-owned business Fairmarket Antiques Centre Lismore has been a part of the fair "forever", said people loved having something that was well-made and unique.

"I just love everything about antiques," she said.

"I love the quality and the visual; they are just lovely to have around you.

"I love it when a couple come in to buy a vintage or antique engagement ring and I see them walk out really excited because it's unique - it's a one-off.

"The ring has already been an heirloom for someone else, and it will be an heirloom for them too, something to be handed down in the family. …
