AS FAR as season endings go, they don't come much worse.

With the national spotlight on the club thanks to the supporters keeping up their tradition of travelling to the final away game in fancy dress, it's fair to say the force wasn't strong with this one.

Hartlepool United had more than 500 fans making the near 800-mile round trip to Plymouth dressed as Stormtroopers from Star Wars.

Being accused of already being in holiday mode isn't the kindest way of looking at the end of the season.

Yet boss Craig Hignett felt that's exactly what his players were.

"I learned my players have been on holiday and they have for the last few weeks. We started well and then conceded, then downed tools and a manager should never have to say that,'' Hignett admitted.

This team has displayed muchimproved qualities under Hignett but this time they reverted to type as they crumbled.

Against a team refreshed with seven changes from last time - their manager had one eye on the impending play-offs with Portsmouth - Pool were woeful. …
