Anger as Adult Day Centre Plants Stolen

WHO would do this? That's what Wendy Richardson from Yatton House wants to know after thieves stole more than 100 plants and pots of herbs collected to raise funds for the day centre.

Yatton House is a volunteer-run day centre and registered charity in Great Ayton for adults with learning disabilities.

Open weekdays, it provides activities, trips out and the chance to socialise for vulnerable adults. The centre on Guisborough Road had opened its gates during the Bank Holiday weekend so the public could use its car park free of charge to watch the Tour de Yorkshire.

But staff were "devastated" to discover the thefts on the Tuesday morning.

"I think it was disbelief at first that someone would take advantage when we were only trying to be helpful," said Wendy, service manager at the centre.

"To be quite honest, we were devastated. I just can't believe it. It's really sad that people would do that and stoop so low. …
