MARK Cohn's song, Walking in Memphis, has a line that might have been written about Gympie.

Reaction to the plight of Michelle Connell, who needs medicine worth $130,000 a year to stay alive, proves you've always got a prayer in Gympie.

GYMPIE is showing its best side as support keeps rolling in for the campaign to keep Michelle Connell alive.

Michelle is fighting to survive a rare cancer that can only be controlled with a drug that costs an impossible $130,000, because it is not subsidised on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme.

"We read about it in The Gympie Times and thought we should do something.

"Callum in the bottle shop suggested we borrow the Maryborough Pub Crawl idea and have an official Gympie pub crawl to raise money," said Donna Ferguson of the Victory Hotel.

And we're asking people to consider donating $52 a year.

"That's $1 a week.

"If we can get 2500 people to donate $1 a week, we can keep Michelle alive. …
